Kolkata – The 30th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) witnessed a star-studded Day Two as celebrated actress Satabdi Roy inaugurated two special exhibitions honoring cinematic legends. The festivities took place at the Nandan Foyer and Gaganendra Art Gallery, drawing cinephiles and industry stalwarts alike to celebrate the rich heritage of Indian and global cinema.
As part of the festival’s tribute to the birth centenary of legendary Bengali filmmaker Tapan Sinha, an exhibition showcasing his unparalleled contributions to cinema was unveiled at the Nandan Foyer. Satabdi Roy, who starred in Sinha’s iconic 1986 film Atank, was joined by Tapan Sinha’s son and scientist Anindya Sinha, acclaimed artist Jogen Chowdhury, and filmmaker Goutam Ghose in inaugurating the exhibition.

The exhibit features a captivating collection of posters from Sinha’s acclaimed films, including Atank, Atithi, Jhinder Bandi, Ek Doctor Ki Maut, and Nirjan Saikate, along with personal booklets and rare insights into his work.
Standing before the poster of Atank, Satabdi Roy reminisced about her time working with the visionary filmmaker. “Tapan Sinha was not just an exceptional director but also an extraordinary person. His films were simple yet profound, resonating with audiences across generations. Despite his understated presence, his work remains etched in the hearts of viewers, each film exploring a unique subject,” she said.
Later in the day, Satabdi Roy also led the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Gaganendra Art Gallery, inaugurating an exhibition commemorating the centenaries of four cinema legends: American actor Marlon Brando, Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, Bengali actress Arundhati Devi, and director Harisadhan Dasgupta.
