Kolkata: The Indian Army’s Eastern Command today commenced the Vijay Diwas 2024 celebrations with a poignant Curtain Raiser event at Fort William, Kolkata. This marks the beginning of a series of tributes commemorating India’s historic victory in the 1971 War and the unparalleled courage of the Indian Armed Forces.
Maj Gen Mohit Seth, SM, VSM, MGGS, Headquarters Eastern Command, addressed the gathering, shedding light on the extraordinary sacrifices and legacy of the 1971 War. “The 1971 victory is not just a military triumph but a testament to the indomitable spirit of our Bravehearts,” he stated.
Adding a unique dimension to the event was Mr. Manash Ghosh, a veteran war journalist and former Editor of the Bengali Statesman. Sharing vivid battlefield memories, he recounted the bravery and resilience of the Indian soldiers, leaving the audience inspired by tales of heroism that defined the war.
The Curtain Raiser paid homage to the sacrifices of the Bravehearts and their families, setting a solemn yet celebratory tone for the Vijay Diwas events. This year’s celebrations promise a series of activities honouring the valour and legacy of the 1971 War heroes.
