Guwahati: Dr. Rohit Raghunath Ranade, Consultant, Gynaecologic Oncology at Narayana Health City, Bengaluru, conducted an OPD cum Cervical Cancer Screening Session in Guwahati during his visit in the city.
The session was a significant step towards raising awareness about early cancer detection and promoting health initiatives in the Northeastern region of India. The Doctor highlighted causes and symptoms of gynae-cancers like cervical, ovarian and endometrial cancers and educated women to take precautionary measures.
Dr. Rohit Raghunath Ranade also spoke about the rise in cervical cancer cases both globally and nationally. He mentioned the urgent need for early detection, prevention, and curative treatment, particularly in the Northeast India, which has been witnessing constant rise in gynae-cancer cases. Not only cervical but ovarian and endometrial cancers are also on a rise.
Highlighting the benefits of cervical cancer vaccination, Dr. Ranade encouraged women to take HPV Vaccine which will contribute to prevention and elimination of cervical cancer, further improving women's health in the region.
Dr. Rohit Raghunath Ranade said, “Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer among females in India. In India, approximately 1.2 lakh new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed every year. Cervical cancer is completely preventable. The best way to control cervical cancer is to prevent it from developing. This can be done via a combination of HPV vaccination & screening.
