Kolkata : Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, on Tuesday relinquished command of the Eastern Command upon superannuation, bringing to a close a stellar military career spanning nearly four decades.

During his tenure as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen Tiwari was credited with strengthening operational readiness along India’s sensitive eastern frontiers. Under his leadership, the Command saw significant improvements in capability development, force modernisation, and technology integration.

Lt Gen Tiwari played a key role in border management and maintained seamless coordination with sister services and civil authorities. His tenure was marked by a careful balance between operational vigilance and peace initiatives in the North East, including counter-insurgency operations and community outreach programs to build trust with local populations.

 

He championed modernisation and digital transformation within the Command, enhancing situational awareness and operational efficiency. A strong advocate of joint operations, Lt Gen Tiwari actively promoted synergy between military, paramilitary, and civilian agencies, overseeing successful training exercises, infrastructure projects, and disaster relief efforts.

Known for his focus on troop welfare and leadership development, he fostered a culture of professionalism and excellence across ranks, significantly strengthening the Eastern Command’s combat effectiveness.

On relinquishing command, Lt Gen Tiwari expressed gratitude to all ranks of the Command for their dedication and professionalism. The Indian Army salutes his distinguished service and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
