Kolkata : A proud chapter in the legacy of one of Kolkata’s
oldest educational institutions was reopened today as the iconic Tirthapati Institution in Ballygunge
saw the unveiling of a transformed campus, thanks to the corporate-community
alliance between Dabur India Limited and Ennoble Social Innovation Foundation.
Despite its rich heritage, the school faced
infrastructural challenges common among government schools across India.
According to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), only 26.5% of
schools in the state have usable toilets for girls, and just 34% have boundary
walls, highlighting the pressing need for infrastructural improvements.
This landmark school, which holds the
distinction of being associated with Rabindranath Tagore in his formative years
and has names of cinema luminaries like R. D. Burman and Pradeep Kumar among
its alumni, now stands revitalized with essential upgrades that promise a
healthier, safer, and more inspiring environment for over 2,200 students. The
school’s transformation, supported by Dabur India Limited under its CSR mission
of enabling education and community well-being, aligns seamlessly with
Ennoble’s vision of creating future-ready, lovable institutions through
deep-rooted community impact.
The
transformation encompassed several key interventions:
·
Structural
Enhancements: Complete plaster renewal, fresh exterior paint, and inspiring
student-focused artwork have given the building a vibrant and inviting
appearance.
·
Sanitation
Facilities:
Renovation of toilets across all three floors, including plumbing, tiling,
waterproofing, urinals, partitions, ventilators, and full sanitation upgrades,
ensuring hygienic and dignified usage—especially benefiting girls and younger
children.
·
Safety and
Accessibility: Repairs to ramps, window frames, grills, and doors to ensure
safety, accessibility, and functionality for all students, including children
with disabilities.
These interventions directly address the
infrastructural deficits highlighted in the ASER report, aligning with the
United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive
and equitable quality education for all.
