North 24 Parganas : In the suburban municipalities of North 24
Parganas district, most people are dependent on independent Cath labs or
diagnostic centres, where unavailability of next line referral or unresolved
complications can be a cost of precious time. According to recent research by
the Cardiological Society of India, over 40% of cardiac patients in tier-2 and
rural areas are referred for complex care only after their condition worsens
severely. It is not infrequent for such patients in these regions to be rushed
out by their families on desperate late-night trips for urgent treatment—valuable
hours that, with improved access, could have been conserved. Highlighting
Manipal Hospital’s commitment towards best cardiac care excellence in Eastern
India, Dr. Soumya Patra, Consultant &
In-Charge – Cardiology at Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, shared a critical procedure on a 70-year-old woman
from Habra who was admitted with severe breathing difficulties caused by heart
failure.
Speaking about the advanced facilities at Manipal Hospitals, Dr. Soumya Patra, Consultant & In-Charge – Cardiology at Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur, said, “At Manipal Hospitals, our mission is to offer comprehensive cardiac care that extends beyond just procedures. One of our key advantages is accessibility—our hospital is strategically located near major railway and metro stations, making it easier for patients from rural and suburban areas to reach us. I can confidently say that people from regions like North 24 Parganas are in safe hands with us. Recently, At Manipal Hospital, we treated a 70-year-old woman from Habra who came to us with severe breathing difficulties caused by heart failure. Diagnostic tests revealed that one of her heart valves was critically narrowed and wasn’t functioning properly. She also had a prior history of heart disease and had undergone valve replacement surgery years ago. Given her age and medical background, another open-heart surgery posed significant risks. We opted for a minimally invasive procedure known as TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), which allowed us to replace the damaged valve without opening her chest. The procedure was a success, and she was discharged just two days later—breathing comfortably and on the road to recovery.”
What makes Manipal different is not
just scale, but the ability to respond in real time. With 500+ critical care
beds, 75
expert cardiologists, 15 highly skilled cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons
(CTVS), and seven advanced Cath Labs placed strategically to serve patients
from North 24 Parganas.24x7 emergency teams, and in-house specialists for nephrology, endocrinology,
neurology, and more, ensuring no delay in life-saving decisions. Every year it carries out more
than 30,000 cardiac procedures and over 3,000 cardiac surgeries.
