Ministry of Culture commemorates the 250th Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy from today till 22nd May 2023

National : Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the Ministry of Culture has started to commemorate the yearlong celebration of the 250th Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy from today. It will continue till next year 22nd May. The inaugural ceremony took place at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Salt Lake, Kolkata, and at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata. The programme was organized by Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Shri G.



 Kishan Reddy joined the ceremony virtually. Today is the 50th foundation day of Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation also. Shri Reddy unveiled an iconic statue of Raja Ram Mohan Roy in virtual mode at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata. At Science City auditorium Shri Reddy said that Raja Ram Mohan Roy was not only the Father of Indian renaissance but he was also vocal for the freedom of women in the country. His incredible efforts to abolish the practices of ‘Sati’ in India, made him a leader of the common mass not only of Bengal but also of the entire Indian sub-continent.
   The Minister also referred to Ram Mohan Roy as an educationist and great philosopher. With an immense influence in the field of politics and public administration he is considered to be the “Father of Bengal renaissance”. He mentioned some recent initiatives taken by the government. Beside National Library, six special libraries were set up. The government is committed to reach the education at last miles so digital facilities were set up in many libraries of the country. He called up all sections of people of the country for hoisting of the national flag in every house on 15th August and celebrating Independence Day with the national anthem. The Governor of West Bengal, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, said that future generations must continue to follow the ideas of Ram Mohan Roy. Among others



 present were Smt. Uma Nanduri, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Sri Atul Mishra, Deputy Secretary, Swami Shastrajnanananda, Secretary, Ramkrishna Mission, Saradapith, Niranjan Pradhan, Pradeep Chakraborty. Several other events were arranged at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata. A seminar and quiz program for children were organized. A multimedia presentation on various facets of the life of Shri Raja Ram Mohan Roy was presented too.
